It does not properly mitigate against unsafe characters in serialized regular expressions. This vulnerability is not affected on Node.js environment since Node.js's implementation of RegExp.prototype.toString() backslash-escapes all forward slashes in regular expressions. If serialized data of regular expression objects are used in an environment other than Node.js, it is affected by this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-79"],"references":["https://github.com/yahoo/serialize-javascript/security/advisories/GHSA-h9rv-jmmf-4pgx","https://github.com/yahoo/serialize-javascript/security/advisories/GHSA-h9rv-jmmf-4pgx"],"products":["verizon:serialize-javascript"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:59:27.069234358+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-16769","score":0.008,"percentile":0.56578,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-h9rv-jmmf-4pgx","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-h9rv-jmmf-4pgx","summary":"Cross-Site Scripting in serialize-javascript","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:24.747348522Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"serialize-javascript","purl":"pkg:npm/serialize-javascript","ranges":["<2.1.1"],"fixed":["2.1.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
