{"cve":"CVE-2019-14833","nvd":{"published":"2019-11-06T10:15:10.793","modified":"2026-06-17T02:19:07.570","status":"Modified","description":"A flaw was found in Samba, all versions starting samba 4.5.0 before samba 4.9.15, samba 4.10.10, samba 4.11.2, in the way it handles a user password change or a new password for a samba user. The Samba Active Directory Domain Controller can be configured to use a custom script to check for password complexity. This configuration can fail to verify password complexity when non-ASCII characters are used in the password, which could lead to weak passwords being set for samba users, making it vulnerable to dictionary attacks.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":5.4},"cwes":["CWE-521","CWE-305"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2019-11/msg00015.html","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2019-14833","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2021/05/msg00023.html","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2023/09/msg00013.html","https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce%40lists.fedoraproject.org/message/OKPYHDFI7HRELVXBE5J4MTGSI35AKFBI/"],"products":["fedoraproject:fedora","opensuse:leap","samba:samba"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:59:25.448946135+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-14833","score":0.01858,"percentile":0.7921,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
