It is possible to trigger a RangeError exception from the host rather than the \"sandboxed\" context by reaching the stack call limit with an infinite recursion. The returned object is then used to reference the mainModule property of the host code running the script allowing it to spawn a child_process and execute arbitrary code.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:C/C:L/I:L/A:L","score":8.3},"cwes":["CWE-674"],"references":["https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/commit/4b22d704e4794af63a5a2d633385fd20948f6f90","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/issues/197","https://snyk.io/vuln/SNYK-JS-VM2-473188","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/commit/4b22d704e4794af63a5a2d633385fd20948f6f90","https://github.com/patriksimek/vm2/issues/197"],"products":["vm2_project:vm2"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T21:33:44.859608815+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2019-10761","score":0.01329,"percentile":0.71029,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-wf5x-cr3r-xr77","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-wf5x-cr3r-xr77","summary":"vm2 before 3.6.11 vulnerable to sandbox escape","modified":"2026-09-10T03:49:44.870714495Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"vm2","purl":"pkg:npm/vm2","ranges":["<3.6.11"],"fixed":["3.6.11"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
