The loop was caused by the fact that Parser.next_block was not exhausting all the lines in the reader as the while loop expected it would. This was happening because the regular expression that detects any list was not agreeing with the regular expression that detects a specific list type. So the line kept getting pushed back onto the reader, hence causing the loop.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-835"],"references":["https://github.com/asciidoctor/asciidoctor/issues/2888","https://github.com/asciidoctor/asciidoctor/issues/2888"],"products":["asciidoctor:asciidoctor"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:53:59.789560037+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-18385","score":0.0225,"percentile":0.829,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-qc9p-mjxm-j2wj","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qc9p-mjxm-j2wj","summary":"Asciidoctor Infinite Loop vulnerability","modified":"2023-11-08T04:00:05.305431Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"RubyGems","name":"asciidoctor","purl":"pkg:gem/asciidoctor","ranges":["<1.5.8"],"fixed":["1.5.8"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
