This is exploitable by attackers who can create virtual machines. An attacker can arbitrarily redirect the hypervisor flow of control (with full register control). An attacker can also cause a denial of service (hypervisor panic) via an illegal exception return. This occurs because of insufficient restrictions on userspace access to the core register file, and because PSTATE.M validation does not prevent unintended execution modes.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:H","score":7.1},"cwes":["CWE-20"],"references":["http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=2a3f93459d689d990b3ecfbe782fec89b97d3279","http://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=d26c25a9d19b5976b319af528886f89cf455692d","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/105550","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:3656","https://cdn.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v4.x/ChangeLog-4.18.12"],"products":["canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:53:14.491561039+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-18021","score":0.00593,"percentile":0.4838,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
