{"cve":"CVE-2018-16984","nvd":{"published":"2018-10-02T18:29:01.430","modified":"2026-06-17T01:45:10.607","status":"Modified","description":"An issue was discovered in Django 2.1 before 2.1.2, in which unprivileged users can read the password hashes of arbitrary accounts. The read-only password widget used by the Django Admin to display an obfuscated password hash was bypassed if a user has only the \"view\" permission (new in Django 2.1), resulting in display of the entire password hash to those users. This may result in a vulnerability for sites with legacy user accounts using insecure hashes.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:H/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":4.9},"cwes":["CWE-522"],"references":["http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1041749","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20190502-0009/","https://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/2018/oct/01/security-release/","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1041749","https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20190502-0009/"],"products":["djangoproject:django"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:53:14.491561039+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-16984","score":0.0205,"percentile":0.81239,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-6mx3-3vqg-hpp2","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6mx3-3vqg-hpp2","summary":"Django allows unprivileged users to read the password hashes of arbitrary accounts","modified":"2024-09-18T19:07:30.122563Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"django","purl":"pkg:pypi/django","ranges":[">=2.1 <2.1.2"],"fixed":["2.1.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2018-3","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2018-3","summary":"","modified":"2023-11-08T04:00:02.548230Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"django","purl":"pkg:pypi/django","ranges":[">=2.1 <2.1.2"],"fixed":["2.1.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
