The function handling incoming NTLM type-2 messages (`lib/vauth/ntlm.c:ntlm_decode_type2_target`) does not validate incoming data correctly and is subject to an integer overflow vulnerability. Using that overflow, a malicious or broken NTLM server could trick libcurl to accept a bad length + offset combination that would lead to a buffer read out-of-bounds.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-125","CWE-190"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/106947","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2019:3701","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2018-16890","https://cert-portal.siemens.com/productcert/pdf/ssa-436177.pdf","https://curl.haxx.se/docs/CVE-2018-16890.html"],"products":["canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","f5:big-ip_access_policy_manager","haxx:libcurl","netapp:clustered_data_ontap","oracle:communications_operations_monitor","oracle:http_server","oracle:secure_global_desktop","redhat:enterprise_linux","siemens:sinema_remote_connect_client"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:54:46.948512734+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-16890","score":0.05351,"percentile":0.92637,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
