{"cve":"CVE-2018-16880","nvd":{"published":"2019-01-29T16:29:00.387","modified":"2026-06-17T01:44:58.920","status":"Modified","description":"A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's handle_rx() function in the [vhost_net] driver. A malicious virtual guest, under specific conditions, can trigger an out-of-bounds write in a kmalloc-8 slab on a virtual host which may lead to a kernel memory corruption and a system panic. Due to the nature of the flaw, privilege escalation cannot be fully ruled out. Versions from v4.16 and newer are vulnerable.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.0},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2019-05/msg00037.html","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/106735","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2018-16880","https://support.f5.com/csp/article/K03593314","https://usn.ubuntu.com/3903-1/"],"products":["canonical:ubuntu_linux","linux:linux_kernel"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:54:46.948512734+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-16880","score":0.00561,"percentile":0.46676,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
