The issue only affects nginx if it is built with the ngx_http_mp4_module (the module is not built by default) and the .mp4. directive is used in the configuration file. Further, the attack is only possible if an attacker is able to trigger processing of a specially crafted mp4 file with the ngx_http_mp4_module.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:N/A:H","score":6.1},"cwes":["CWE-400","CWE-835"],"references":["http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-security-announce/2019-09/msg00035.html","http://mailman.nginx.org/pipermail/nginx-announce/2018/000221.html","http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2021/Sep/36","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/105868","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1042039"],"products":["apple:xcode","canonical:ubuntu_linux","debian:debian_linux","f5:nginx","opensuse:leap"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:53:59.789560037+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-16845","score":0.09845,"percentile":0.95561,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
