{"cve":"CVE-2018-16596","nvd":{"published":"2018-12-17T19:29:00.533","modified":"2026-06-17T01:44:31.537","status":"Modified","description":"A stack-based buffer overflow in the LAN UPnP service running on UDP port 1900 of Swisscom Internet-Box (2, Standard, and Plus) prior to v09.04.00 and Internet-Box light prior to v08.05.02 allows remote code execution. No authentication is required to exploit this vulnerability. Sending a simple UDP packet to port 1900 allows an attacker to execute code on a remote device. However, this is only possible if the attacker is inside the LAN. Because of ASLR, the success rate is not 100% and leads instead to a DoS of the UPnP service. The remaining functionality of the Internet Box is not affected. A reboot of the Internet Box is necessary to attempt the exploit again.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:A/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-787"],"references":["https://www.swisscom.ch/content/dam/swisscom/de/about/nachhaltigkeit/digitale-schweiz/sicherheit/bug-bounty/files/cve-2018-16596.txt","https://www.swisscom.ch/content/dam/swisscom/de/about/nachhaltigkeit/digitale-schweiz/sicherheit/bug-bounty/files/cve-2018-16596.txt"],"products":["swisscom:internet-box_2_firmware","swisscom:internet-box_light_firmware","swisscom:internet-box_plus_firmware","swisscom:internet-box_standard_firmware"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:54:36.112582389+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-16596","score":0.007,"percentile":0.53174,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
