This attack appear to be exploitable via the victim opening an electron protocol handler in their browser. This vulnerability appears to have been fixed in Electron 1.8.2-beta.5. This issue is due to an incomplete fix for CVE-2018-1000006, specifically the black list used was not case insensitive allowing an attacker to potentially bypass it.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://electronjs.org/releases#1.8.2-beta.5","https://github.com/electron/electron/commit/ce361a12e355f9e1e99c989f1ea056c9e502dbe7","https://electronjs.org/releases#1.8.2-beta.5","https://github.com/electron/electron/commit/ce361a12e355f9e1e99c989f1ea056c9e502dbe7"],"products":["electronjs:electron"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:48:50.842038930+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2018-1000118","score":0.02404,"percentile":0.84059,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-fjqr-fx3f-g4rv","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-fjqr-fx3f-g4rv","summary":"Electron protocol handler browser vulnerable to Command Injection","modified":"2023-11-08T03:59:35.151472Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"electron","purl":"pkg:npm/electron","ranges":["<1.8.2-beta5"],"fixed":["1.8.2-beta5"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
