{"cve":"CVE-2017-3163","nvd":{"published":"2017-08-30T14:29:00.207","modified":"2026-06-17T01:17:39.017","status":"Modified","description":"When using the Index Replication feature, Apache Solr nodes can pull index files from a master/leader node using an HTTP API which accepts a file name. However, Solr before 5.5.4 and 6.x before 6.4.1 did not validate the file name, hence it was possible to craft a special request involving path traversal, leaving any file readable to the Solr server process exposed. Solr servers protected and restricted by firewall rules and/or authentication would not be at risk since only trusted clients and users would gain direct HTTP access.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-22"],"references":["https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1447","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1448","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1449","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1450","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:1451"],"products":["apache:solr"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:46:01.145313090+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-3163","score":0.06559,"percentile":0.93816,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-387v-84cv-9qmc","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-387v-84cv-9qmc","summary":"Improper Limitation of a Pathname ('Path Traversal') in org.apache.solr:solr-core","modified":"2023-11-08T03:59:20.650184Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.solr/solr-core","ranges":["<5.5.4"],"fixed":["5.5.4"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.solr:solr-core","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.solr/solr-core","ranges":[">=6.0.0 <6.4.1"],"fixed":["6.4.1"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
