If the cookie is correct, it is allowed to attach to the Xorg session. Since most memcmp() implementations return after an invalid byte is seen, this causes a time difference between a valid and invalid byte, which could allow an efficient brute force attack.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.0},"cwes":["CWE-200","CWE-385"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/96480","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1037919","https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2017-2624","https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/d7ac755f0b618eb1259d93c8a16ec6e39a18627c","https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2017/11/msg00032.html"],"products":["debian:debian_linux","x.org:x_server"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:52:03.425131697+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-2624","score":0.00697,"percentile":0.53074,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
