This is a result of initializing the environment of forked CGI scripts using untrusted HTTP request parameters in the cgiHandler function in cgi.c. When combined with the glibc dynamic linker, this behaviour can be abused for remote code execution using special parameter names such as LD_PRELOAD. An attacker can POST their shared object payload in the body of the request, and reference it using /proc/self/fd/0.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.1},"cwes":[],"references":["http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/security-advisory/cpuapr2018-3678067.html","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1040702","https://github.com/elttam/advisories/tree/master/CVE-2017-17562","https://github.com/embedthis/goahead/commit/6f786c123196eb622625a920d54048629a7caa74","https://github.com/embedthis/goahead/issues/249"],"products":["embedthis:goahead","oracle:integrated_lights_out_manager"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:47:56.471723566+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-17562","score":0.97127,"percentile":0.99894,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":{"cve":"CVE-2017-17562","date_added":"2021-12-10","due_date":"2022-06-10","vendor":"Embedthis","product":"GoAhead","known_ransomware":false},"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
