{"cve":"CVE-2017-16615","nvd":{"published":"2017-11-08T03:29:00.200","modified":"2026-06-17T01:09:34.493","status":"Modified","description":"An exploitable vulnerability exists in the YAML parsing functionality in the parse_yaml_query method in parser.py in MLAlchemy before 0.2.2. When processing YAML-Based queries for data, a YAML parser can execute arbitrary Python commands resulting in command execution because load is used where safe_load should have been used. An attacker can insert Python into loaded YAML to trigger this vulnerability.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":[],"references":["https://github.com/thanethomson/MLAlchemy/commit/bc795757febdcce430d89f9d08f75c32d6989d3c","https://github.com/thanethomson/MLAlchemy/issues/1","https://joel-malwarebenchmark.github.io/blog/2017/11/08/cve-2017-16615-critical-restful-web-applications-vulnerability/","https://github.com/thanethomson/MLAlchemy/commit/bc795757febdcce430d89f9d08f75c32d6989d3c","https://github.com/thanethomson/MLAlchemy/issues/1"],"products":["mlalchemy_project:mlalchemy"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:47:01.408438353+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-16615","score":0.03445,"percentile":0.89001,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-xpm8-98mx-h4c5","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xpm8-98mx-h4c5","summary":"Unsafe deserialization in MLAlchemy","modified":"2025-02-14T05:28:40.304883Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"mlalchemy","purl":"pkg:pypi/mlalchemy","ranges":["<0.2.2"],"fixed":["0.2.2"]}]},{"id":"PYSEC-2017-19","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/PYSEC-2017-19","summary":"","modified":"2023-11-08T03:59:13.061322Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"PyPI","name":"mlalchemy","purl":"pkg:pypi/mlalchemy","ranges":["<0.2.2"],"fixed":["0.2.2"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
