{"cve":"CVE-2017-16368","nvd":{"published":"2017-12-09T06:29:01.227","modified":"2026-06-17T01:09:15.660","status":"Modified","description":"An issue was discovered in Adobe Acrobat and Reader: 2017.012.20098 and earlier versions, 2017.011.30066 and earlier versions, 2015.006.30355 and earlier versions, and 11.0.22 and earlier versions. This vulnerability leads to a stack-based buffer overflow condition in the internal Unicode string manipulation module. It is triggered by an invalid PDF file, where a crafted Unicode string causes an out of bounds memory access of a stack allocated buffer, due to improper checks when manipulating an offset of a pointer to the buffer. Attackers can exploit the vulnerability and achieve arbitrary code execution if they can effectively control the accessible memory.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.1","vector":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":8.8},"cwes":["CWE-119"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/101816","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1039791","https://helpx.adobe.com/security/products/acrobat/apsb17-36.html","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/101816","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1039791"],"products":["adobe:acrobat","adobe:acrobat_dc","adobe:acrobat_reader","adobe:acrobat_reader_dc"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:47:56.471723566+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-16368","score":0.13242,"percentile":0.9638,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
