This issue could be triggered prior to authentication. The PSFTPd server did not automatically restart, which enabled attackers to perform a very effective DoS attack against this service. By sending a crafted SSH identification / version string to the server, a NULL pointer dereference could be caused, apparently because of a race condition in the window message handling, performing the cleanup for invalid connections. This incorrect cleanup code has a use-after-free.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-416"],"references":["http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/144972/PSFTPd-Windows-FTP-Server-10.0.4-Build-729-Use-After-Free-Log-Injection.html","http://www.securityfocus.com/archive/1/541518/100/0/threaded","https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/43144/","https://www.x41-dsec.de/lab/advisories/x41-2017-006-psftpd/","http://packetstormsecurity.com/files/144972/PSFTPd-Windows-FTP-Server-10.0.4-Build-729-Use-After-Free-Log-Injection.html"],"products":["psftp:psftpd"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:47:01.408438353+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-15271","score":0.08742,"percentile":0.95154,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
