It is possible to craft a message attachment header that could lead to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack on a CXF web service provider. Both JAX-WS and JAX-RS services are vulnerable to this attack. From Apache CXF 3.2.1 and 3.1.14, message attachment headers that are greater than 300 characters will be rejected by default. This value is configurable via the property \"attachment-max-header-size\".","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":5.5},"cwes":[],"references":["http://cxf.apache.org/security-advisories.data/CVE-2017-12624.txt.asc","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/101859","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1040486","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:2423","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:2424"],"products":["apache:cxf"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:47:01.408438353+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2017-12624","score":0.03697,"percentile":0.89725,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-7vgj-8mw4-hg8r","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-7vgj-8mw4-hg8r","summary":"Improper Input Validation in Apache CXF","modified":"2024-02-16T08:09:10.414224Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.cxf:cxf-core","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.cxf/cxf-core","ranges":[">=3.2.0 <3.2.1"],"fixed":["3.2.1"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.cxf:cxf-core","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.cxf/cxf-core","ranges":[">=3.1.0 <3.1.14"],"fixed":["3.1.14"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.cxf:cxf-core","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.cxf/cxf-core","ranges":["<3.0.16"],"fixed":["3.0.16"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
