{"cve":"CVE-2016-9951","nvd":{"published":"2016-12-17T03:59:00.357","modified":"2026-06-17T00:56:49.393","status":"Modified","description":"An issue was discovered in Apport before 2.20.4. A malicious Apport crash file can contain a restart command in `RespawnCommand` or `ProcCmdline` fields. This command will be executed if a user clicks the Relaunch button on the Apport prompt from the malicious crash file. The fix is to only show the Relaunch button on Apport crash files generated by local systems. The Relaunch button will be hidden when crash files are opened directly in Apport-GTK.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H","score":6.5},"cwes":["CWE-284"],"references":["http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/95011","http://www.ubuntu.com/usn/USN-3157-1","https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport/+bug/1648806","https://donncha.is/2016/12/compromising-ubuntu-desktop/","https://github.com/DonnchaC/ubuntu-apport-exploitation"],"products":["apport_project:apport"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:41:25.729257544+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-9951","score":0.06674,"percentile":0.93896,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
