{"cve":"CVE-2016-9471","nvd":{"published":"2017-03-28T02:59:01.340","modified":"2026-06-17T00:56:08.150","status":"Modified","description":"Revive Adserver before 3.2.5 and 4.0.0 suffers from Special Element Injection. Usernames weren't properly sanitised when creating users on a Revive Adserver instance. Especially, control characters were not filtered, allowing apparently identical usernames to co-exist in the system, due to the fact that such characters are normally ignored when an HTML page is displayed in a browser. The issue could have therefore been exploited for user spoofing, although elevated privileges are required to create users within Revive Adserver.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:H/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:L/A:N","score":3.1},"cwes":["CWE-75"],"references":["https://github.com/revive-adserver/revive-adserver/commit/05b1eceb","https://hackerone.com/reports/128181","https://www.revive-adserver.com/security/revive-sa-2016-002/","https://github.com/revive-adserver/revive-adserver/commit/05b1eceb","https://hackerone.com/reports/128181"],"products":["revive-adserver:revive_adserver"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:42:09.859288039+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-9471","score":0.01367,"percentile":0.71851,"date":"2026-11-01"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
