{"cve":"CVE-2016-8745","nvd":{"published":"2017-08-10T22:29:00.267","modified":"2026-06-17T00:54:56.347","status":"Modified","description":"A bug in the error handling of the send file code for the NIO HTTP connector in Apache Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 to 9.0.0.M13, 8.5.0 to 8.5.8, 8.0.0.RC1 to 8.0.39, 7.0.0 to 7.0.73 and 6.0.16 to 6.0.48 resulted in the current Processor object being added to the Processor cache multiple times. This in turn meant that the same Processor could be used for concurrent requests. Sharing a Processor can result in information leakage between requests including, not not limited to, session ID and the response body. The bug was first noticed in 8.5.x onwards where it appears the refactoring of the Connector code for 8.5.x onwards made it more likely that the bug was observed. Initially it was thought that the 8.5.x refactoring introduced the bug but further investigation has shown that the bug is present in all currently supported Tomcat versions.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":7.5},"cwes":["CWE-388"],"references":["http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2017-0457.html","http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2017-0527.html","http://www.debian.org/security/2017/dsa-3754","http://www.debian.org/security/2017/dsa-3755","http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/security-advisory/cpuapr2018-3678067.html"],"products":["apache:tomcat"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:44:47.710380879+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-8745","score":0.16038,"percentile":0.96915,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-w3j5-q8f2-3cqq","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-w3j5-q8f2-3cqq","summary":"Concurrent Execution using Shared Resource with Improper Synchronization in Apache Tomcat","modified":"2025-09-02T22:39:47.130477Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.tomcat/tomcat-util","ranges":[">=9.0.0.M1 <9.0.0.M14"],"fixed":["9.0.0.M14"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.tomcat/tomcat-util","ranges":[">=8.5.0 <8.5.9"],"fixed":["8.5.9"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.tomcat/tomcat-util","ranges":[">=8.0.0-RC1 <8.0.41"],"fixed":["8.0.41"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.tomcat/tomcat-util","ranges":[">=7.0.0 <7.0.75"],"fixed":["7.0.75"]},{"ecosystem":"Maven","name":"org.apache.tomcat:tomcat-util","purl":"pkg:maven/org.apache.tomcat/tomcat-util","ranges":[">=6.0.16 <6.0.50"],"fixed":["6.0.50"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
