{"cve":"CVE-2016-8622","nvd":{"published":"2018-07-31T21:29:00.317","modified":"2026-06-17T00:54:37.527","status":"Modified","description":"The URL percent-encoding decode function in libcurl before 7.51.0 is called `curl_easy_unescape`. Internally, even if this function would be made to allocate a unscape destination buffer larger than 2GB, it would return that new length in a signed 32 bit integer variable, thus the length would get either just truncated or both truncated and turned negative. That could then lead to libcurl writing outside of its heap based buffer.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":9.8},"cwes":["CWE-787","CWE-122","CWE-190"],"references":["http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/security-advisory/cpuoct2018-4428296.html","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/94105","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1037192","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:2486","https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2018:3558"],"products":["haxx:libcurl"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:52:03.425131697+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-8622","score":0.0467,"percentile":0.91765,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
