{"cve":"CVE-2016-8332","nvd":{"published":"2016-10-28T14:59:00.167","modified":"2026-06-17T00:54:10.917","status":"Modified","description":"A buffer overflow in OpenJPEG 2.1.1 causes arbitrary code execution when parsing a crafted image. An exploitable code execution vulnerability exists in the jpeg2000 image file format parser as implemented in the OpenJpeg library. A specially crafted jpeg2000 file can cause an out of bound heap write resulting in heap corruption leading to arbitrary code execution. For a successful attack, the target user needs to open a malicious jpeg2000 file. The jpeg2000 image file format is mostly used for embedding images inside PDF documents and the OpenJpeg library is used by a number of popular PDF renderers making PDF documents a likely attack vector.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H","score":7.8},"cwes":["CWE-119"],"references":["http://www.debian.org/security/2017/dsa-3768","http://www.securityfocus.com/bid/93242","http://www.securitytracker.com/id/1038623","http://www.talosintelligence.com/reports/TALOS-2016-0193/","https://github.com/uclouvain/openjpeg/releases/tag/v2.1.2"],"products":["uclouvain:openjpeg"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:40:10.783210791+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-8332","score":0.02563,"percentile":0.85114,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
