{"cve":"CVE-2016-10536","nvd":{"published":"2018-05-31T20:29:01.253","modified":"2026-06-17T00:39:53.787","status":"Modified","description":"engine.io-client is the client for engine.io, the implementation of a transport-based cross-browser/cross-device bi-directional communication layer for Socket.IO. The vulnerability is related to the way that node.js handles the `rejectUnauthorized` setting. If the value is something that evaluates to false, certificate verification will be disabled. This is problematic as engine.io-client 1.6.8 and earlier passes in an object for settings that includes the rejectUnauthorized property, whether it has been set or not. If the value has not been explicitly changed, it will be passed in as `null`, resulting in certificate verification being turned off.","cvss_v4":null,"cvss_v3":{"version":"3.0","vector":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:N/A:N","score":5.9},"cwes":["CWE-295","CWE-300"],"references":["https://github.com/socketio/engine.io-client/commit/2c55b278a491bf45313ecc0825cf800e2f7ff5c1","https://nodesecurity.io/advisories/99","https://www.cigital.com/blog/node-js-socket-io/","https://github.com/socketio/engine.io-client/commit/2c55b278a491bf45313ecc0825cf800e2f7ff5c1","https://nodesecurity.io/advisories/99"],"products":["socket:engine.io-client"],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T20:50:40.212176939+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2016-10536","score":0.00997,"percentile":0.62743,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[{"id":"GHSA-4r4m-hjwj-43p8","url":"https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-4r4m-hjwj-43p8","summary":"Insecure Defaults Allow MITM Over TLS in engine.io-client","modified":"2023-11-08T03:58:11.209416Z","packages":[{"ecosystem":"npm","name":"engine.io-client","purl":"pkg:npm/engine.io-client","ranges":["<1.6.9"],"fixed":["1.6.9"]}]}],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
