{"cve":"CVE-2012-10053","nvd":{"published":"2025-08-08T19:15:35.637","modified":"2026-06-16T23:38:45.190","status":"Deferred","description":"Simple Web Server 2.2 rc2 contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in its handling of the Connection HTTP header. When a remote attacker sends an overly long string in this header, the server uses vsprintf() without proper bounds checking, leading to a buffer overflow on the stack. This flaw allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the web server process. The vulnerability is triggered before authentication.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":9.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-121"],"references":["http://ghostinthelab.wordpress.com/2012/07/19/simplewebserver-2-2-rc2-remote-buffer-overflow-exploit/","http://www.pmx.it/software/sws.asp","https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rapid7/metasploit-framework/master/modules/exploits/windows/http/sws_connection_bof.rb","https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/19937","https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/20028"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:06:45.861874017+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2012-10053","score":0.01876,"percentile":0.79408,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
