{"cve":"CVE-2012-10033","nvd":{"published":"2025-08-05T20:15:34.483","modified":"2026-06-16T23:38:42.753","status":"Deferred","description":"Narcissus is vulnerable to remote code execution via improper input handling in its image configuration workflow. Specifically, the backend.php script fails to sanitize the release parameter before passing it to the configure_image() function. This function invokes PHP’s passthru() with the unsanitized input, allowing attackers to inject arbitrary system commands. Exploitation occurs via a crafted POST request, resulting in command execution under the web server’s context.","cvss_v4":{"vector":"CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:N/UI:N/VC:H/VI:H/VA:H/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N","score":9.3},"cvss_v3":null,"cwes":["CWE-78"],"references":["https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rapid7/metasploit-framework/master/modules/exploits/unix/webapp/narcissus_backend_exec.rb","https://web.archive.org/web/20101127002623/https://narcissus.angstrom-distribution.org/","https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/22709","https://www.exploit-db.com/exploits/22856","https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/narcissus-image-config-command-injection"],"products":[],"source":"nvd","synced_at":"2026-10-19T22:06:45.861874017+00:00"},"epss":{"cve":"CVE-2012-10033","score":0.01847,"percentile":0.79075,"date":"2026-10-31"},"kev":null,"osv":[],"attribution":["This product uses the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD.","EPSS scores: FIRST Exploit Prediction Scoring System, https://www.first.org/epss","Known exploited vulnerabilities: CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog, https://www.cisa.gov/known-exploited-vulnerabilities-catalog","Package advisories: OSV (https://osv.dev), from the GitHub Advisory Database, PyPA, Go, RustSec and other ecosystem databases, under CC-BY 4.0 or CC0","CVE records: the CVE Program's CVE List (https://www.cve.org), under its terms of use (https://www.cve.org/Legal/TermsOfUse).
